Information, Knowledge and Products for Renovations and New Counstructions of Civil Defense Shelters
– There are plenty of civil defence shelters in Finland, but for many it can be unclear how renovation should be carried out and which products best suit different sites. This is understandable, and that is exactly why it is worth turning to experts already in the planning phase, says Jani Holkko, responsible for the production and deliveries of JTK Power’s shelter equipment.
When the war in Ukraine began, a wave of questions also reached the sales team manufacturing JTK Power’s shelter products. At JTK, customers are advised to be careful when planning renovations so the end result becomes a functional and long-lasting solution.
– When we start planning a renovation, we first carry out a comprehensive initial survey. Based on that, we can select the exact shelter equipment suitable for the site. Buildings of different ages have different equipment, and replacing everything is not always necessary. We review, for example, which wall sleeves will be renewed, whether doors can be replaced, and what other aspects must be considered so the shelter spaces can be updated to current requirements, Holkko explains.

Experts supporting sales of shelter equipment
– Modern standard products do not always fit renovation projects as they are. We regularly customise products while taking the customer’s perspective into account. After that, we go through the site’s special characteristics together with production, and production adapts the products to the project. There is always a solution! We work closely every day with production specialists, which enables fast and knowledgeable responses to our customers, says Linda Björklund, Sales and Product Manager at JTK Power Safety.
Shelter products delivered at the right time for new construction
At JTK, special care is taken to deliver shelter equipment to new construction sites at exactly the right moment – when installation is relevant. The company strives to keep agreed delivery times and works daily to enable flexible service. Even last-minute orders are handled with an accelerated schedule whenever possible.
– We keep production in good readiness so we can also make quick deliveries. We actively stay in contact with the customer regarding deliveries so they arrive at the correct time. Recently, a customer gave feedback that during a large delivery we kept precisely the same pace as the construction site – no interruptions, and also nothing delivered too early. Good communication is the foundation of successful cooperation, say Holkko and production foreman Timo Ruohonen.
Before shipping, production once again verifies that all correct products are included. In addition, experts check the placement drawing and the order for consistency before dispatch.
Answers to choosing shelter equipment
JTK Power’s shelter equipment is manufactured at the Vöyri factory in Ostrobothnia. Sales, design, and production operate in the same building. The sales team and production specialists therefore gladly sit down together to review different solution models.
– Our process runs smoothly because we work under the same roof as production. Questions are answered quickly, and our production team has excellent problem-solving ability built on long experience, Björklund says.
